...how it feels to finally understand your child?
...the excitement to finally have an explanation for the last 5 years with your son?
...the hope that there is help, so you don't have to go it alone anymore?
...the confusion and wondering if you should have sought help sooner?
...how overwhelming it all is?
... the missing link- Sensory Integration Dysfunction?
For now, all I can say is our family is in a time of major transition and we could use your love, support and prayers. Our son Pauly (5 1/2) was just diagnosed with Sensory Integration Dysfunction which is an inability of the brain to correctly process information brought in by the senses. The results include outbursts of anger, frustration, fear, sensitivity and energy.
It is wonderful to finally understand what has been going on all these years; there are so many moments of "oh that makes so much sense now" and "that's why" but it's all very overwhelming. There is so much to learn about SID and how we can help him, so that he can really thrive to his fullest potential. His case is not severe, but the road ahead is going to have it's ups and downs as we plan out and implement his treatment.
Family and friends- Please visit the site listed below, so that you too can better understand Pauly and what we're dealing with. When you scroll down this site, it will have an option to go to About.com-Sensory Integration; that connected me to some of the best info that I could easily understand and process. I hope you will take a few minutes to at least read the description; He needs all of us working with him and loving him; and quite frankly Mom and Dad do too.
